attendez svp

Wait. Hold on. Just a minute. Pause.

Ask anyone and they would tell you that any of the above words are a large source of frustration. Waiting implies a lack of control, an acknowledgement that something is simply out of your hands. For someone like myself, I'd rather be in the driver seat than standing at a cross walk, waiting for the light to turn green. I've struggled with the admittance that most of life is not in my control. As I've gotten older, I've come to the realization that while waiting may be frustrating and disheartening, its for a reason. Rather than trying to force life to acquiesce to my demands, I need to let it simply happen. To trust that God puts us all on this earth for a purpose and a plan.

I'm not saying watch life wizz by while passively waiting, but rather act in faith and in virtue that the things that are out of your own control will eventually fall into place. March along, make bold choices, take the chances given to you and enjoy the surprises that life dishes out.

today's style inspiration

Each month, French Vogue does a piece entitled "Dans le dressing de..." in which they interview and photograph a noted member of the French fashion community. These pictorials/articles allow for peeks into the closets of some of the best dressed French women, as well as their style inspirations and advice. Today's features Caroline Sieber and I simply adore her looks. She mixes classic items such as Chanel shoes with more risque pieces like a sheer beaded sheath. This particular photo was my favorite look.

liberally speaking

I'm liberal.

But not in the way that you're thinking. I'm conservative in values and in political practice, but at heart I am liberal. And by liberal I mean a product of a liberal arts degree. I was recently told that I was a walking volume of useless knowledge, but I beg to differ on the use of the word "useless." True, my wealth of information on WWI and WWII Europe may serve zero purpose in the work place other than for fun fact time. The fact that I can walk past a piece of modern art and comment on its structure and its relation to nihilism or existentialism also may be seen more as a pretentious burst of hot air than interesting. But the fact is, I love my education. I love that I can speak another language, I love that I can paint, I love that I can watch a movie and fully grasp the historical and cultural references to which they allude.

Sure, having a liberal arts degree made it significantly more difficult to obtain a job right out of college, but the random path I took to get to where I am now was the most wonderful year of my life.

So yeah, I'm liberal all right.

Disney damsels

Two of my favorite animated things: Tim Burton and Disney Princesses. Creepy? Yes. Amazing? Most definitely.

audrey

Girl crush confession moment:

Audrey Hepburn has always been my favorite leading lady of all time. She's a beauty that is so rare and unique that I doubt anyone can rival her girlish yet sophisticated pixy looks.  She was so spunky, but more importantly everything about her exuded class. If I could emulate anyone, it would certainly be Miss Hepburn.

waking up in Paris

I have an absolute love and fascination with all things French; their culture, their architecture, their lifestyle. One of my favorite things to dream about it having a little flat in Paris. Something bright, with an eclectic mix of old world Parisian style and modern spunk. Elle Decor recently did a small piece on Parisian apartments and I fell in love with Olivier Gagnère's decorating style.

I feel pretty...

Not only does this photo sum up how I feel at times, but it further cements my love for Kristen Wiig.

Inspiration

The thought of a blog is scary, it always has been for me. So this is my attempt at sharing any and all inspiration I find throughout life, may it be funny, seemingly profound or painfully ordinary.
